2019 The Third Asian Microbiome Conference

The third Asian Microbiome Conference was held in 2019. This year saw the conference expanded to two days and included six major topics: human gastrointestinal microbiota, human microbiology, animal/plant/environmental microbiology, fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT), nutrition & probiotics, and bioinformatics. In total, 23 scholars from around the world and more than 300 participants were in attendance at the conference. In human gastrointestinal microbiota, discussions centered on the impact of diets, Chinese herbs, obesity, colorectal cancer, and gut flora, as well as a multinomial perspective on intestinal bacteria and metabolism. In human microbiology, speakers talked about how microorganisms can affect human skin, oral cavities, and vaginas. For the human skin system in particular, vaccines and skin probiotics are being developed to combat acne and other skin-related conditions. On the other hand, oral and vaginal microbiotas are known risk factors for gum disease and miscarriages respectively. From these two topics it became apparent that intestinal bacteria can influence disease prognoses. Therefore, treating them with probiotics is presenting another opportunity for medical research. As such, the various challenges of probiotic treatments, and topics related to nutrition and probiotics, were incisively investigated at the conference. In the FMT session, numerous successful transplants and recent legislation bills were the focus of attention. The application of FMT in different countries around the world (such as establishing stool banks) was also in the spotlight. To learn more about other topics not related to the human body, please refer to the relevant reports on the conference.
